Extreme Bloggy Makeover
So say it with me... "Bus driver, move that bus!"
[Dust settling] *cough cough*
Look up there! That's right! I've got a brand spankin' new blog header. Isn't it purty? I'm very happy with it. It even has one of those nifty sub-headings (or is it a bi-line?). It's incredible how long I agonized over those few simple words as evidenced by reading here, here, oh and here. Anybody think that Elaine is still reading to finally get an answer to her question? No, probably not.
Now if you're like my mom and was peeking around earlier you may have seen a completely different header up there. I was just trying one on for size when one of the two children distracted me (or it could have been the hubs) and I forgot to take my "tester" down. In the meantime inspiration struck and this was the end result. Far better than the first one, trust me.
"Welcome home bloggy header, welcome home."

Frugal Friday: Chill Out
Your fridge is a great place to save money. Check out these cool savings...
- Did you know you can freeze whole gallons of milk? It's true. Just put the whole thing in the freezer unopened. (The plastic container will expand once frozen so don't be surprised.) Stock up when it goes on sale and then when you get low just pop one in the fridge and it'll be thawed in a day or so.
- Store bread in the freezer as well. When you're ready to make a PB&J just set it out on the counter and you'll have a tasty sandwich in no time.
- A friend and I share a supersized package of yeast from one of those warehouse type stores. I put it in a ziploc baggy and store it in the fridge. It is so much cheaper and it lasts forever!

Have Staple Gun... Will Redecorate!
I found this lovely pair of bar stools while dumpster diving.
I liked them because they were black as they would match the wrought iron look I have going on in the kitchen. I also liked that they were somewhat more compact and shorter than typical bar stools as I would be using them at the kitchen counter rather than an actual "bar". But really I loved them because they were free.
Unfortunately, they had this small problem.

Unfortunately, they had this small problem.
The original owner had used black electrical tape to cover one of the unsightly holes. And when my dad fixed one of the legs he added his own strip of electrical tape to the other one. However, over time that electrical tape disappeared and hitched a ride with someone - I'm not telling who, just know that I discreetly removed it from your backside and avoided embarrassment for you and for me.
So, with staple gun in hand (thanks Granddad!) I went to work covering these little gems.
Found this beautiful red and cream toile fabric in the clearance bin at Walmart for $4. It goes great in my red kitchen and there's plenty left over for more projects.
